Did you slip back into any old habits that you wish you hadn’t? Did you gain any new habits that you wish you would have walked away from?
‘Fess up … we won’t tell.
Over the summer, I gave up caffeine. Cold turkey. I was caving to the stress surrounding the job search, etc. and one day started having heart palpitations. It scared the crap out of me, and the only culprit I could come up with was caffeine. I have never been an addict when it comes to caffeine, I have always just had my one, occasionally two cups of coffee a day. When pregnant with both of my children, I switched to decaf coffee. And sometime last year, I finally gave the boot to my Diet Coke habit. So I quit. Just like that. It’s amazing how easy it can be when you think it’s effecting your health. We also drink iced tea at home, and that became decaf as well. And I haven’t looked back. I haven’t had any caffeine (with the exception of one ill advised Starbucks drink that threw me for a loop a few months ago) in over 6 months. And I don’t miss it. I also haven’t had a soda in longer than I can remember. Diet Coke had started making me feel like crap a long time ago, and I finally just said to hell with it, I don’t need it.
I suppose one addiction that is neither new or rekindled, but constant in my life, is my obsession with my phone.
I am really not sure I could survive without this thing anymore. Yesterday I was at my mom’s house, and left to go get some gas and pick up lunch, and left my phone there. It was like an itch the entire time I was gone. I start to have immediate withdrawals. Even if I know I don’t have it, I reach for it out of habit. I think maybe this one has become worse this year, because I have been home so much while out of work. It feels like my only connection to the real world most days. When I’m feeling lonely and house-bound with the toddler, it allows me to talk to my friends via Twitter and Facebook. It’s my little world in that phone. It’s embarrassing to admit how much I love it.
P.S. I discovered the evils of Nutella a LONG time ago – but I’ve been trying to get healthy this year, so I’ve been keeping it at bay.
